When Celia and Alan meet up in Episode 1 they travel much further than it seems!
They both arrive in Skipton, North Yorkshire:
And park in different car parks; here’s Alan’s blue Astra:
He’s in Garden Street car park in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire:
Here’s Celia pulling into a space in her silver car:
That’s the Rochdale Canal by the New Road car park, also Hebden Bridge :
They meet inside a café then Alan leaves to buy a car park ticket:
It’s the Courtyard Coffee House in Knutsford, Cheshire:
After reporting Alan’s car stolen, they go into another café:
Blackshaw’s Café in Stockport, Cheshire:
Here’s a picture of that scene being filmed:

On their journey home they spot Alan’s car and give chase:By the Springs Branch of the Leeds Liverpool Canal in Skipton:
And across a canal bridge:Which is on Coach Street, Skipton:
Around a roundabout:Still in Skipton:
Celia then crashes into Alan’s car:
Here’s a picture taken while they filmed these scenes:

Finally Caroline and Gillian meet up with them in a pub:
It’s the Riverhead Brewery Tap in Marsden, West Yorkshire (on the left is the Coop where Gillian works!):
To confuse matters the interior is The Pack Horse pub at Birtle, near Rochdale, Lancashire:
So by my reckoning that’s four counties and a very long journey… although they couldn’t get to Cheshire without passing through Greater Manchester, so it’s five counties.
More general filming location for Last Tango in Halifax here.
My next post will be about other pubs used in the series, more incidental locations and an interesting online surprise…
Excellent guide 🙂 I photographed a bit of the filming just outside Skipton – http://liveoopnorth.co.uk/2012/02/last-tango-in-halifax-filming/ – this was the scene where they spot Alan’s Car and give chase. It was all filmed in a very small area on this road – http://goo.gl/maps/tc9lI
That’s great Tom, many thanks for your comment – great pics, especially the hug one 🙂
I intended to add a link to your blog with a screenshot from those scenes and the local paper link tomorrow, as I ran out of time tonight coz my bed beckons!
my ggg grandfather lived at Wolstenholme hall before it was rebuilt , he was a stone getter, this was just South of the farm.
Well at least we were right about Hebden Bridge – we lived there many years ago!
In 1952 my Dad was stationed at Burtonwood AFB north of Warrington. We rented a flat for awhile in Altrincham. The series reminds me much of this part of the country. Though I was only 9-10 yrs old, I remember being driven over country lanes and often passing under or over canals.
